A Chair for Both Babies and Adults: Our Hauck Alpha+ Highchair Review

I’ve always believed that memories are made at family meal times, whether that’s on vacation, on the go, or at home around the dinner table. That’s why it’s important to include your child in these moments as much as possible from an early age. Getting your baby used to a highchair and sitting around the dining table with you at meal times as you all eat together enables them to establish a healthy eating routine as well as teaching them how to eat solid foods if they’re weaning. If you have any experience with the weaning stage then you will probably be aware how messy it can get and therefore choosing a high chair that is easy to clean and convenient enough to sit your child in is important. That’s why we love the Hauck Alpha+ highchair! It comes in a range of colours, is well made and sturdy, it’s easy to wipe down without getting pieces of food trapped in corners and it grows with your child through to adulthood.

Hauck Alpha+ Highchair Review

So going back to our first point on creating memories at dinner time, the Hauck Alpha+ serves as a convenient and sentimental way to treasure those family moments from those first few months right through to your child becoming an adult. Suitable from birth and safely holding up to 90 kilograms of weight, the Hauck Alpha+ highchair can be adapted as your baby grows from a baby to a child and again into adulthood. With a simple switch of its wooden slats and a quick turn of a key, this highchair can be turned from a baby’s highchair into a sturdy chair suitable for adults.

Sure, there are many cheaper highchairs on the market but when you factor in the money you save (and the space) in the long run with the Alpha+ it really is a cost-effective and worthwhile investment! There aren’t many items that your child can use as a newborn that prove equally as functional when they’re an adult but with the Hauck Alpha+ highchair, you and your child can savour those special memories forever.

Even toddlers and young children love to look back at pictures of themselves as babies and see items they used or wore as newborns, so being able to use a single chair for their entire lives is incredibly special. Putting it into perspective, the high chair they sat in during those early months when they were learning to eat solids for the first time might just be the same chair at which they sit to learn to read and write and later, to study for exams and even work when they’re a teen or adult. There are a few additional add-ons that you can purchase for the chair including a cushioned headrest for use with the highchair, along with a tray for weaning and feeding.

The chair already has its own slim built-in tray which fits conveniently under a table however, there is a larger tray that you can purchase separately should you so wish. The chair on its own comes with all of the capabilities to transform from a cute and sufficient highchair into a standard wooden chair that can seat a full-grown adult.

Is it sturdy? How easy is it to assemble?

The Hauck Alpha+ is incredibly well made and feels safe enough for both baby and adults – obviously not at the same time. The chair is made from solid wood and is available in a variety of colours from standard wood finishes to white, grey, blush and black. We tested out the white highchair and it is beautiful and the paint doesn’t chip either. The Hauck Alpha+ is also incredibly easy to assemble. Everything you need comes in the box, so there’s no need to buy any other tools, except perhaps a standard size screwdriver just to tighten the screws and pieces together. The instructions are clear and the screws and bolts all come clearly labelled, making it quick and easy to assemble. Overall it took about 30 minutes to unpack, organise the pieces, form an understanding of the instructions and then assembling it all together.

Is the Hauck Alpha+ easy to clean?

The highchair is very easy to clean, which is another major bonus! If you are new to weaning, you might only now be aware of how time-consuming the process can be and if it’s getting late or your in a rush to get ready and go out, you really appreciate having a highchair that is fast to simply wipe down when you’re done. So far, the white highchair has no stains or discolouration from foods or little fingerprints either, so you can rest assured that the highchair cleans up rather well!

Is the Hauck Alpha+ good for travel?

Before testing out the Hauck Alpha+ highchair, the pictures did make it look as though it was sleek and light enough to be folded up and carried around with you when you travel. However, when the chair arrived and taking into consideration the weight of the chair, we don’t think it would be the kind of chair you’d want to carry around with you on days out or picnics. Not unless you were happy to bundle it into your car in its already assembled form. The chair is sleek and minimal, making it perfect for sliding under the dining table or storing away. However, the chair doesn’t fold up and is also very sturdy and quite heavy as far as highchairs go. But what you might lose in terms of travel and portability, you gain with this item’s longevity and sheer quality.
